Dr Montessori understood the importance of nature. She wrote a lot about how we should have lots of opportunity to be in nature, to understand it, appreciate its harmony, its order and its beauty:
“Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.”
In order to educate children to understand and to protect our environment, nature and the earth, Shining Star has organized the project: “Green week – Earth day”.
Our activities for this green week:
Rubbish classification: Guide the children how to classify garbage: Recycled/ unrecycled waste or organic rubbish
Make toy utensils out of recycling: Children and teachers work on making crafts’ together in the classroom; Encouraging parents and children to make things/ toys at home
Collect dead batteries for proper disposal
Contribute plants to beautify the classroom: Children are encouraged to contribute 1 plant/ each to beautify the classroom

Toy utensils made from recycled goods are in the exhibition including things/ toys made from either the children and teachers or children and parents.
